Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham Announces Drew Bonner as President & CEO, Ushering in a New Chapter of Growth and Community Impact

Birmingham, Alabama – (June 9, 2026) – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham proudly announces the appointment of Drew Bonner as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Bonner succeeds Charles Moore, whose twenty-five years of leadership helped transform Habitat Birmingham into one of the region’s leading forces for affordable homeownership and neighborhood revitalization. Under Moore’s leadership, Habitat Birmingham has built or rehabbed more than 980 homes for sale to low-income families with a zero-percent interest rate. During that time, Habitat has completed more than 2,400 critical repairs for homeowners across its four-county service area.

“Charles Moore has transformed Habitat into a driving force for affordable homeownership and neighborhood revitalization across Greater Birmingham,” said longtime Habitat volunteer and incoming Board Chair Mike Graham. “For decades, he has led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering belief that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Drew represents the next generation of leadership for Habitat Birmingham, and I believe he has both the vision and heart to build on that incredible foundation.”

As Habitat Birmingham enters this next chapter, the organization is not simply continuing its mission — it is accelerating it.

With affordable housing needs continuing to rise across Central Alabama, Habitat Birmingham is expanding its work through new neighborhood developments, strategic partnerships, and innovative community initiatives designed to help more families achieve safe, stable, and affordable homeownership.

“Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham has always been about more than building houses — it’s about creating opportunities for families and strengthening entire communities,” said Bonner. “We are in the midst of a season of growth at a time when the need for affordable homeownership is critical. We know meaningful change only happens through strong partnerships, and I look forward to connecting with our civic leaders, business leaders, faith communities, volunteers, and community members to join us in shaping the future of affordable housing in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker Counties.”

Bonner brings more than twelve years of Habitat experience to the role, including five years with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and the past seven years serving as Chief Operating Officer of Habitat Birmingham. During his tenure, he has helped lead strategic growth initiatives, expand community partnerships, and strengthen the organization’s operational capacity to meet the growing demand for affordable housing solutions.

“Drew has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to Habitat’s mission throughout his time with the organization,” said Board Chair Jim Stewart. “The Board of Directors is confident that under his leadership, Habitat Birmingham will continue to grow its impact and help more families achieve the dream of homeownership.”

Habitat Birmingham has ongoing neighborhood developments in the Hopewell neighborhood of Bessemer, Pleasant Grove, and the Center Point/Roebuck community. The Center Point/Roebuck development is being carried out through a partnership with the Northeast Community YMCA, Christ Health Center, and Impact Family Counseling. Over the past two years, Habitat Birmingham has built more than 100 homes in partnership with local families while continuing to expand critical home repair and neighborhood stabilization efforts throughout Greater Birmingham. Additional recent builds include homes in Fultondale, Leeds, North Smithfield Manor, Pell City, Pinson, Rising West Princeton, and Wahouma.

Under Bonner’s leadership, Habitat Birmingham plans to deepen collaboration with corporate partners, expand volunteer engagement opportunities, and pursue innovative investments that create long-term neighborhood impact across Greater Birmingham.
